In 1985 new A310-221s started changing 727s on the Internal German Services (IGS) and A300s flew in the Caribbean networks later on the same year when from early 1986 more new extended variety A310-222s changed some of the 747s on the slimmed-down transatlantic community adhering to ETOPS certification (acceptance by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of transoceanic traveling with twin-engined plane).
