He does do a good position acting geeky and uncomfortable, but since Garfield is a a lot more conventionally handsome lead, his "loser" portrayal is offered as him staying genuinely shy (including obtaining a stutter), primarily all-around women, as nicely as staying a scruffy dresser with a poor haircut.
