Nicole Riegel’s gritty drama follows a vibrant but down-and-out Rust Belt teenager (Jessica Barden) living on the margins with her brother when their addict mother does a stint in jail. Not even a voice overall performance from Rose Byrne as Mother can bust by way of the thicket of boredom for all we know, her contribution could have been literally phoned in.
