These places maintain the Buddhist canon, the Tripiṭaka (the "3 Baskets"), in the Pâli language. The Buddhist canon as it arrived in China was in Sanskrit, and it integrated many unique Mahâyâna Sûtras that are not in the Pâli Canon (however some are now suspected of staying Chinese forgeries).
