Jungle exotica was a Hollywood development, with its roots in Tarzan motion pictures (and even more back again to William Henry Hudson's novel Green Mansions). When American servicemen returned household following the stop of World War II in 1945, they introduced with them stories and souvenirs from their time in the South Pacific that served to reinforce the reputation of what Hollywood had established the stage for Donn Beach to create.
