To hold the IRC client from quitting when the ssh link closes, the customer can be run inside a terminal multiplexer such as GNU Screen or tmux, thus being connected to the IRC community(s) continually and in a position to log conversation in channels that the person is intrigued in, or to manage a channel's existence on the community.
