Hawley attended Lexington Middle School and then Rockhurst High School, a personal Jesuit boys' prep university in Kansas City, Missouri, from which he graduated in 1998 as a valedictorian. In October 2012 Stewart walked across Vauxhall Bridge over the Thames in London with an previous high school close friend, Alexander Gilly.
