The connections and reaction qualities of cells in DM/ V6 counsel that this region is a vital node in a subset of the "dorsal stream", referred to by some as the "dorsomedial pathway". The 1st scientific tests of the electrophysiological qualities of neurons in MT showed that a significant part of the cells are tuned to the velocity and route of shifting visual stimuli.
