In late March 2012, the Wikimedia Deutschland announced Wikidata, a universal platform for sharing details among all Wikipedia language editions. The 1-billionth Wikimedia undertaking edit was performed on 16 April. The undertaking sought funding through Indiegogo, and was supposed to honor the contributions of Wikipedia's editors. In January 2021, Wikipedia's 20th anniversary was noted in the media.
