It is the 2nd most populous town in the Central-West Region, only surpassed by the country's funds Brasília, positioned about 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Goiânia. At the centre of the town is the Marienplatz - a big open up square named immediately after the Mariensäule, a Marian column in its centre - with the Old and the New Town Hall.
