Donald's name is proposed by the epithet dasachtach, a term used of violent madmen and mad bulls, attached to him in the eleventh-century writings of Flann Mainistrech, echoed by his description in the Prophecy of Berchan as "the rough a single who will believe relics and psalms of little worthy of".
