From the beginning it has been devoted to creating a new working technique that is, by style and design, incompatible with all the others (though, as we shall see, it is appropriate with Unix in some very critical ways). Speaking of which, Microsoft tackled the exact same trouble in a substantially much more orderly way by making a new OS termed Windows NT, which is explicitly meant to be a direct competitor of Unix.
