A 2012 survey of English-language yaoi enthusiasts located that just 15 % of respondents reported that the presence of rape in yaoi media created them uncomfortable, as the greater part of respondents could distinguish between the "fantasy, genre-pushed rape" of yaoi and rape as a criminal offense in truth.
