On 16 July 390 BC, a Gallic military less than the management of tribal chieftain Brennus, satisfied the Romans on the banks of the Allia River ten miles north of Rome. The metropolis of Rome grew from settlements around a ford on the river Tiber, a crossroads of site visitors and trade. This brought on a problem, in that Rome came to have a significant male population but was bereft of women.
