This was comedy gold in 1964. The 2nd period finds the exhibit acquiring a great deal lighter in its strategy, with Herman (the late, underrated Fred Gwynne) downplaying his overwhelming stature and getting to be more childlike, when the writing dropped some of its satirical chunk.
