Julius Caesar went to provide his quaestorship in Hispania just after his wife's funeral, in the spring or early summer time of 69 BC. He tried anyway, and was publicly opposed by the top generals, and forced by Congress to a compromise placement of "Don't talk to, don't notify" whereby gays could serve if and only if they saved it key.
