After discovering from Der Spiegel magazine that the NSA has been listening in to her personal mobile mobile phone, Merkel when compared the snooping tactics of the NSA with these of the Stasi. It was reported in March 2014, by Der Spiegel that Merkel had also been positioned on an NSA surveillance checklist along with 122 other world leaders.
