After discovering from Der Spiegel magazine that the NSA has been listening in to her personalized cell cell phone, Merkel compared the snooping tactics of the NSA with these of the Stasi. It was claimed in March 2014, by Der Spiegel that Merkel experienced also been placed on an NSA surveillance list alongside 122 other world leaders.
