The House Select Committee on Assassinations issued a report in 1979 significant of the performance by the FBI, the Warren Commission, and other agencies. Because of the controversial nature of Hoover's legacy, both of those Republicans and Democrats have periodically launched laws in the House and Senate to rename it. In 1964, Hoover's FBI investigated Jack Valenti, a unique assistant and confidant of President Lyndon Johnson.
