Dickinson, Mifflin and other Framers who objected to slavery had been outvoted on that issue, even so, and the first Constitution sanctioned slavery (while it was not dependent on either the race or any other attribute of the slave) and, by way of the 3-Fifths Compromise, it counted slaves (who were being not outlined by race) as 3-fifths of a Person for functions of distribution of taxes and representation in the House of Representatives.
