Influential textbooks of the 1960s included Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and Paul Ehrlich's The Population Bomb. 60,000-100,000 protesters built up of college students and pacifists converged in what was to become the "ban the Bomb" demonstrations. In 1963, quite a few nations ratified the Partial Test Ban Treaty which prohibited atmospheric nuclear screening.
