The Modern English variety crocodile was tailored immediately from the Classical Latin crocodīlus in the sixteenth century, replacing the earlier variety. In the Koine Greek of Roman instances, krokodilos and krokodeilos would have been pronounced identically, and both or equally may well be the resource of the Latinized type crocodīlus made use of by the historical Romans.
