YouTube highlighted an April Fools prank on the site on April 1 of just about every calendar year from 2008 to 2016. In 2008, all hyperlinks to video clips on the principal website page were redirected to Rick Astley's songs video "Never Gonna Give You Up", a prank acknowledged as "rickrolling".
