The last time I seriously touched cloudformation I was applying JSON though a personalized template processor (never snicker we all do it at some stage). Workers are deployed specifically working with the AWS API. If its a new lambda, its deployed into AWS and the controller lambda has its surroundings variables update to know about the new lambda, at which position new searches will strike it and the index grows.
