There are three concentrations of clergy: the episcopate, composed of bishops who keep jurisdiction about a geographic place identified as a diocese or eparchy the presbyterate, composed of monks ordained by bishops and who function in local dioceses or religious orders and the diaconate, composed of deacons who assist bishops and priests in a wide variety of ministerial roles.
