In the summer months of 1933, Gladys acquired a little property in Hollywood with a loan from the Home Owners' Loan Corporation and moved 7-yr-aged Monroe in with her. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked her sixth on their list of the finest female monitor legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood. At the age of 15, Gladys married John Newton Baker, an abusive male nine a long time her senior.
