Vanity Fair and Rotten Tomatoes subsequently included Mommie Dearest on their worst movie lists. Critic David Keyes named I Spit on Your Grave the worst movie of the nineteen eighties and James Livingston wrote in The World Turned Inside Out that it was "a terrifically lousy film".
