Vanity Fair and Rotten Tomatoes subsequently provided Mommie Dearest on their worst film lists. Critic David Keyes named I Spit on Your Grave the worst film of the eighties and James Livingston wrote in The World Turned Inside Out that it was "a terrifically undesirable motion picture".
