On 16 July 390 BC, a Gallic army less than the leadership of tribal chieftain Brennus, satisfied the Romans on the banking institutions of the Allia River 10 miles north of Rome. The metropolis of Rome grew from settlements around a ford on the river Tiber, a crossroads of traffic and trade. This induced a challenge, in that Rome came to have a significant male populace but was bereft of girls.
