In 2011, he agreed to stand for Theranos, a startup that claimed to have revolutionary blood-exam technological innovation he afterwards served on the company’s board. In March, 2018, the Securities and Exchange Commission billed the company’s founder with coördinating a "massive fraud" that misled buyers and clients.
