Many of the concepts from Phase II (along with some scripts) created their way into Star Trek: The Next Generation and the sequence by itself is regarded as deuterocanon - not "true" canon, due to the fact it hardly ever manufactured it to the display screen, but permitted in Broad Strokes to fill a hole in Trek chronology (notice the fictional duration of time among The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan).
