The major resource of irrigation water is the river Nile of which the stream is controlled by the large dam at Aswan. In the Nile valley and delta, nearly 33,600 sq. kilometres (13,000 sq mi) of land benefit from these irrigation waters producing on average 1.8 crops per calendar year.
