A rear differential, also known as a differential or rear axle, is a mechanical device found in vehicles that transmits torque from the engine to the rear wheels while allowing them to rotate at different speeds. It is a critical component of the drivetrain system, particularly in rear-wheel drive (RWD) vehicles, and some four-wheel drive (4WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles.
