As for the novel, it got horrible reviews but bought effectively plenty of for just about every person in town to have a copy of it and the Olsen twins even recorded a spectacular reading through. Skyler is very Genre Savvy, which helps (but not more than enough), and at some point ends up speculating on the existence and motives of the "meta-Skyler" who place him in the story.
