Since the passage of the Hong Kong national protection regulation, or 'Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region', Hong Kong has been the goal of creeping authoritarianism from mainland Chinese government by a wide variety of techniques together with stacking the legislative council with pro-Beijing candidates, arrest of opposition leaders and disqualification of candidates of the legislative council.
