In September 1996, Megadeth went to London to perform on songs for the following album. The album featured a diverse established of tracks which the Los Angeles Times explained as a "rousing equilibrium" among more mature content and experimental tunes. Ellefson defined that the band improved its technique to songwriting for this album, beginning to publish additional melodic tracks.
