The vast majority ruling by Chief Justice Horace Harvey cast significant uncertainties on MacMillan's believability, calling her story "pretty unsupported by other proof" and noting that she "showed a readiness to admit that she could have been mistaken as regards pretty optimistic statements beforehand manufactured when by the issues it appeared there could be impartial proof she was erroneous".
