In late 1301, Ghazan despatched letters to the pope inquiring him to send troops, monks, and peasants, to make the Holy Land a Frank condition yet again. Ghazan introduced that he would return by November 1300, and sent letters and ambassadors to the West so that they could prepare them selves. The embassy was sent because the Great Khan Kublai (Qubilai) ordered Arghun to free of charge Holy Land and guard Christians.
