The phrase ‘gay’ does not describe what is an egregious sin prior to God. ‘Gay’ was picked out to soften the reaction to homosexuality. The bible suggests that the act of homosexuality is a sin. The only "hate" which we are permitted to follow is hatred for sin i.e dislike homosexuality and like Michael to the point exactly where you want him to repent and escape God’s wrath.
