The most frequent tree indigenous to Iceland is the northern birch (Betula pubescens), which previously fashioned forests about a great deal of Iceland, along with aspens (Populus tremula), rowans (Sorbus aucuparia), popular junipers (Juniperus communis), and other smaller trees, generally willows.
