In the late nineties, the COPINE challenge ("Combating Paedophile Information Networks in Europe") at University College Cork, in cooperation with the Paedophile Unit of the London Metropolitan Police, formulated a typology to categorize child abuse photos for use in both investigate and law enforcement.
